Chart type Click the subtype, or variation, of the chart type you want to use. If there are no subtypes displayed, the current chart may be a custom chart type.
The text box under the Chart sub-type describes the type, subtype, or variation of the chart selected in the Chart type box. If there are no subtypes displayed, the current chart may be a custom chart type.
Press and Hold to View Sample Previews the currently selected chart type as it looks when applied to your data.
Chart type Displays the user-defined or built-in custom chart types Microsoft Excel provides.
User-defined Displays the user-defined or built-in custom chart types Excel provides.
Built-in Displays built-in custom chart types to apply to your chart.
Step 2 of 4 - Chart Source Data
This tab shows how the options you select will affect your chart.
Data range Click in the Data range box, and then select the data on your worksheet that you want to plot. If you select the data before you start the Chart Wizard, or if you change the existing source data, the range may already appear in this box. The Collapse Dialog button at the right end of this box temporarily moves the dialog box so that you enter the range by selecting cells in the worksheet. When you finish, you can click the button again to display the entire dialog box.
Rows Specifies that your data series are from the rows of the worksheet.
Columns Specifies that your data series are from the columns of the worksheet.

Series Lists existing data series names. You can add and remove data series from the chart without affecting the data on your worksheet.
Add Click to add a new blank data series to the chart. To add the series name and values for the new series, click in the boxes for Name and Values, and then select a worksheet range; or type the name and values in the boxes. If you type a name in the Name box or values in the Values box, data is not added to the worksheet.
Remove Removes the selected data series from the chart. You can add and remove data series from the chart without affecting the data on your worksheet.
Displays or hides the primary axes of your chart.
Category (X) axis Displays the category (x) axis.Value (Y) axis Displays the value (y) axis.
Value (Y) Axis Displays gridlines on the value (y) axis, based on the options you choose.
Show legend Adds a legend to the chart area.
Placement Places the selected legend in the location you want, and resizes the plot area to accommodate the legend.
Separator Allows you to choose how the contents of the data label are separated. Choose from among the options available or type in a custom separator.
Legend key Places legend keys, with the assigned format and color, next to the data labels in the chart.Show legend keys Displays legend keys, with the assigned format and color for each plotted series, next to the series label in the data table.
As new sheet Click As new sheet, and then type a name for the new chart sheet in the As new sheet box to place the chart on a new chart sheet.
As object in Click As object in, click a sheet name in the As object in box, and then click OK to place the chart as an embedded object on a worksheet. Drag the embedded chart where you want it on the worksheet.
